Nuclear and present danger
Yesterday, a gaggle of Godzilla photos featuring the 2016 version of the iconic creature found their way online. This isn't the first time we've seen the Big G sporting his ferocious new look, but it is the most complete look of the new design we've had so far.
As you can see, this iteration of the King of Monsters is a world away from the noble Gojira seen in the recent Hollywood reboot and the cuddly destroyer of the Showa-era films. This Godzilla is lean, mean and a little bit terrifying with its wild, staring eye and ravaged, misshapen flesh. Three people are required to operate the suit, which will be translated to screen using a mixture of traditional man-in-suit techniques, as well as animatronics, puppetry and CGI.
As with the original film, this new Godzilla will use the spectre of conflict to terrify its audiences. Whereas the original dealt with the fallout of nuclear weapons, the new film will exploit our fears of terrorism, modern real-life tragedies and other so-called "real monsters of the world." If these photos are anything to go by, he's certainly looking the part.
Hopefully we'll get some official, clearer photos of the new design sooner rather than later.
